Interesting Bacteria Facts
Do you know what bacteria feed on or how they survive?
The evolutionary success of bacteria is due in part to the fact that their body rapidly digests the nutrients it receives from eating. That means they have an easy metabolism. All possible mechanisms for obtaining matter and energy can be found in bacteria.
Among the bacteria we can find the following: Bacteria grown in laboratories. They use a chemical compound as a source of carbon, and in turn, this same compound is the source of energy. Bacteria that use reduced inorganic compounds as an energy source and oxygen as a carbon source. Like, for example, the bacteria that are in our stomach known as Nitrobacter, Thiobacillus.
Did you know that there are also viruses all over our planet?
Perhaps you have heard of viruses. These agents live inside cells. Viruses are even smaller: some are only 250 millionths of a millimeter! They are a bit strange beings: they do not eat, but they manage to reproduce as long as they are inside another organism, without which they could not survive.
Viruses act like real «pirates». They have a kind of hook that hooks to a cell and pierces it thanks to a special enzyme they have.
The difference between bacteria and viruses is that viruses depend on animal or plant cells to live, and bacteria, on the other hand, are in the air, land, water or on any land surface.
Viruses inject their DNA, which contains their genetic heritage. In this way, the cell makes other viruses in which the DNA dissolves, while the virus commands that cell to produce other viral particles.
The newly hatched virus colony is ready to attack other cells. Likewise, the new viruses leave the cell bringing with them: the flu, infectious diseases such as measles, chickenpox, mumps, tonsillitis or AIDS, which are viruses that attack our body.
It is for this reason that we must take care of our body, eat very well, exercise at least three times a week, wash our hands before and after going to the bathroom, when we get home from school, when we come from the park. If we protect our body well, it will be healthy and so will we.
